If it weren't for her divorce, I would not have found out Zooey Deschanel makes more money in ONE MONTH ($95,000) than I do in AN ENTIRE YEAR! I spend more than 60 hours a week slaving after lesson plans, curriculum units, grading, classroom management and 2,000 other decisions during the day while I can confidently say this entertainer lives a life of blatant self indulgence.
No doubt, I made my decision to be a teacher and I am damn proud of it, however what does society expect from its teachers when it supports the lifestyles of the rich and famous? It's a sad fact that money buys a relatively stress-free and comfortable lifestyle. However, in my industry, money could do wonders for a child's life and learning. Our teachers would love to have the money to use technology in the classrooms -- to help students get the technology they need. Our teachers would love to have a salary that could improve their lifestyle consequently their motivation. Teachers could use this kind of money that Deschanel mostly throws away -- you would never find a teacher spending $2,000 a month on clothing!
Instead, us teachers are forced to pretend that this percentage of our population -- the egregiously overpaid sports stars; "Kim Kardashians" of the world; recently revealed members of the Congress (how ironic) -- pale in comparison to the responsibilities we have and the job we chose to do. The least we could ask is to remind them of their own elementary school education when they learned "sharing is caring" -- let's think about sharing more than 3 % of your BLOATED income to charity. Wealthy cheapskates.
